The First 28 Km ...

Rivers are roads which move,
and which carry us whither we desire to go.
~Blaise Pascal

Our starting point, Newcastle Park, Drumheller, AB.  Yup, that is 5 - 55 litre dry bags, water, stove, dishes and 3 coolers in total ... oh and perhaps a tripod and camera ...

It doesn't take long before one enjoys some fabulous Badland scenery!

The historic Rosedale Suspension Bridge, once used by miners to access the coal mines in the area.

The remains of the Hwy #10 Bridge

We saw plenty of wildlife ...

The First 28km Under Our Belt ... Only 117km More to Go!

This past Monday was a gorgeous day to set out on our yearly canoeing adventure with our boys.  We've been picking away at the lower Red Deer River for a total of 4 years now.  Some of the lags have been day trips (when the boys were very young) and now the trips include consecutive days on the river and wilderness camping!  Our 145 km adventure this year lasted for 4 wonderful days!  And after returning home to a massive population of mosquitoes, I would just like to mention ... one does NOT have to deal with mosquitoes while on the river ... I'm kind of wishing I was still ON the river!  Haha!

Well, since we are no longer on the river, it looks like we will be in the hay fields for the next few weeks as my husband opened up the first hay field for the year!  I guess haying season has arrived!

  1. I'm enjoying your canoe trip vicariously, Terri! What fabulous scenery ... you've taken some stunning photos already. Not only is your canoe a tireless "work horse", it's a beauty and looks great in your pics!

    1. Awe ... Thank you Lynda! It's a bit of a challenge taking photos while canoeing ... I have definitely 'initiated' my new camera with rain, mud, sand, clay, etc. The Red Deer River valley is very pretty, especially with it being so green right now! We've had the Prospector 17 Canoe for about 4 yrs now and we love it but I think we need to add another one ... the boys are getting big!!!
